Description

Case Presentation: Breaking Down Barriers: Addressing Resistance and Low Self-Efficacy in Gambling Recovery will take place on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM

This case presentation examines the clinical journey of a client diagnosed with Gambling Disorder who exhibited significant resistance to change, largely stemming from low self-worth and self-efficacy. Through motivational interviewing, cognitive restructuring, and values-based interventions, the client gradually reduced defensiveness, increased insight, and developed healthier coping mechanisms. Strengthening the therapeutic alliance and fostering self-compassion were central to overcoming resistance and promoting engagement. Over time, the client demonstrated improved self-esteem, emotional regulation, and sustained reduction in gambling urges. The case underscores the importance of addressing self-worth in treatment, utilizing strength-based approaches, and maintaining flexibility when working with resistant clients.
